London’s Leicester Square To Have Shah Rukh–Kajol Statue

LONGDON (ANI)- Iconic Bollywood duo Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will soon be immortalized in bronze as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) becomes the first Indian film to be honored at London’s ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie trail in Leicester Square.

According to Yash Raj Films, the Heart of London Business Alliance has announced that a statue depicting the beloved DDLJ pair will be unveiled this spring to mark the film’s 30th anniversary. The statue will recreate an iconic scene featuring Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) at Leicester Square, where they first cross paths—Raj in front of the Vue Cinema and Simran walking past the Odeon.

The statue will be positioned along the eastern terrace outside the Odeon Cinema, placing DDLJ among legendary film characters such as Harry Potter, Mr. Bean, Laurel & Hardy, Bugs Bunny, Paddington, and DC superheroes Batman and Wonder Woman.

Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive at Heart of London Business Alliance, called the inclusion a “fitting tribute to Bollywood’s global popularity and a celebration of London’s rich diversity.” He added, “We’re excited to bring the first film that actually features Leicester Square as a location into the trail.”

Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani expressed pride at the recognition, stating, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge became a defining moment for Indian cinema and changed the face of the industry. We’re honoured to see it celebrated on the global stage, showing the immense cultural impact Indian cinema has had around the world.”

Released in 1995, DDLJ remains one of the most beloved and influential Hindi films of all time, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amrish Puri, and Anupam Kher.
