Mohini Dey Denies Affair With AR Rahman: He’s Like A Father To Me
MUMBAI, (ANI) – Bassist Mohini Dey has broken her silence on rumors linking her with legendary musician AR Rahman. In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Mohini denied the allegations, describing Rahman as a father figure. She clarified that she worked as Rahman’s bassist for 8.5 years before moving to the U.S. five years ago and has since collaborated with several pop artists. Mohini urged people to respect her privacy and be sensitive to personal matters.
In the video, Mohini addressed the rumors, emphasizing that Rahman is younger than her father and that she is the same age as Rahman’s daughters. Captioning the post, she wrote:
“It is utterly unbelievable to see the amount of misinformation and baseless assumptions/claims against me and AR Rahman. I honor my time as a kid working with @arrahman throughout my 8.5 years with him on movies, tours, and more. It’s disheartening to witness such a lack of respect, sympathy, or empathy in emotional matters like this. The media’s vulgarization of these events feels criminal.”
She further added, “AR Rahman is a legend and like a father to me! I’ve had many father figures and role models in my life, including my dad, who taught me everything about music and whom I lost a year ago, Ranjit Barot, who introduced me to the industry, Louiz Banks, who shaped me, and AR Rahman, who gave me the freedom to shine in his shows and arrangements during recordings.”
Mohini concluded by urging restraint from the media: “The media and paparazzi fail to understand the toll this takes on people’s lives and mental well-being. I don’t owe anyone explanations, but I don’t want this to interrupt my day. Please stop with the false claims and respect our privacy.”
The rumors emerged after AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, announced their decision to part ways after 29 years of marriage on November 19. Around the same time, Mohini announced her divorce from her husband, Mark Hartsuch, fueling speculation.
Rahman’s children and ex-partner, Saira Banu, have publicly dismissed the rumors and expressed their support for him. The composer has also threatened legal action against those spreading misinformation.
