NEW DELHI – Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, is set to build what could become the world’s largest data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. According to Bloomberg News, the ambitious project will have a capacity of 3 gigawatts, significantly surpassing the current largest data center, Microsoft’s 600-megawatt facility in Virginia.
The state-of-the-art data center will leverage Nvidia’s Blackwell AI processors, with Mukesh Ambani purchasing AI semiconductors from the company. This follows the announcement of a joint initiative in October 2024, where Reliance and Nvidia revealed their plans to build AI infrastructure in India. The collaboration aims to support the development of AI supercomputers and train large language models in Indian languages, further positioning India as a global AI hub.
Ambani’s plan for the Jamnagar facility claims to include powering it primarily with renewable energy from an adjacent green energy complex.
