National Education Conference Honors Pramila Jayapal

SEATTLE, WA — On March 15, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) received the Friend of Higher Education Award at the National Education Association’s (NEA) Higher Education Conference. This recognition comes at a time when the education sector faces significant challenges, including deep budget cuts proposed by the Trump administration and ongoing influence from figures like Elon Musk, who heads DOGE.

During her acceptance speech, Jayapal described education as “the bedrock of our democracy” and reaffirmed her commitment to protecting and strengthening it. She said, “It was so great to join educators from across the country today at NEA’s Higher Education Conference — and to accept their Friend of Higher Education Award! Education is the bedrock of our democracy and something I will always fight to protect.”
