WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), a senior member of the House Oversight Committee, on July 30 announced plans to introduce a resolution in Congress opposing any form of clemency for Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker and longtime accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein.
The move follows newly disclosed communications indicating that Maxwell is seeking a presidential pardon in exchange for testifying before Congress. In a letter to the House Oversight Committee, Maxwell’s attorney stated she would not cooperate without immunity and expressed that Maxwell would be “willing and eager to testify openly and honestly… if she were to receive clemency.”
“Ghislaine Maxwell directly facilitated the sexual abuse of children,” Krishnamoorthi said in a statement. “She was convicted in a court of law after a fair trial and is now serving a just sentence. The idea that her freedom could be traded for false testimony is an insult to the survivors of her crimes and a threat to the integrity of our justice system. No pardon. No commutation. No deal. Justice must never be for sale—especially to those who prey on children.”
Krishnamoorthi’s resolution comes amid ongoing efforts by members of Congress to obtain the full release of the Epstein files. Advocates for transparency have accused the Trump Administration of blocking access to critical documents, further fueling concerns about political interference and lack of accountability in the case.
Maxwell was convicted in 2021 on multiple federal charges, including sex trafficking of minors. Prosecutors presented evidence that she groomed and trafficked underage girls for abuse by Epstein and his associates. She is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.
