Trump Not The Right Person To Be President: Haley

WASHINGTON, DC (IANS) – Nikki Haley, who has emerged as a strong contender in the Republican presidential primary race, doesn’t think her rival Donald Trump is the right person to be President at the moment.

During the fourth Republican debate on December 6, Haley, the former South Carolina Governor, did not answer whether Trump is fit to be president, but she told ABC News that it is not about fitness but rather Trump is just not the right person to be President right now.

“It’s not about fitness. I think he’s fit to be President. It’s ‘Should he be President?’ I don’t think he should be President. I thought he was the right President at the right time,” Haley said in an interview that was aired on Monday.

“We’ve got to look at the issues that we’re dealing with, coming forward with new solutions, not focusing on negativity and baggage of the past. So, it’s not about being fit. It’s just I don’t think he’s the right person to be President,” she said.

Trump maintains an unprecedented lead over his rivals in both early state and national polls, with 61 percent of self-identified Republicans saying they would vote for the former President in the state-by-state nominating contest, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll.

Haley, who served as Trump’s UN ambassador for the first two years of his administration, has urged the country to move past him in recent interviews.

In an interview with CNN this week, Haley said that though she recognizes the strong voter support Trump has, “chaos” continues to follow him.

“I think President Trump was the right President at the right time. I agree with a lot of his policies, but chaos follows him. Rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him. We can’t afford four more years of chaos and survive it,” Haley told CNN.

However, at the first Republican debate, Haley had indicated that she would support her former boss as their party’s nominee for the 2024 race even if he was convicted of a felony.

“I’m not going to be 100 percent with him. I’m not going to be 100 percent against him. It’s not personal for me. This is about what’s right for the country,” she told ABC.

“This is about how we’re going to lead. This is about the direction we should go. It’s not about the personal thoughts of an individual. It’s about the fact that we have a country to save.”

Haley recently got a big edge in the presidential race with an endorsement from New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu.

He called her “the candidate with the momentum to win and get our party back on track to deliver conservative victories across the country”.

  • Love the election time.

Haley says Trump not the right person so I am right!

She was the US Representative to the UN. She left her work midway with an excuse that her family needed her. She cant be trusted to stay on for 4 years. SO I WILL NOT VOTE!

  • Trump’s felonies are nothing compared to what Bush, Obama, Clinton and Biden have done on the international and national stage. If Trump had bombed East Asia like Bush and Obama, they would have called for his head at the UN and ICC.

  • Haley, is absolutely no chance of being nominated no matter what the polls say. Most of the polls are conducted by the big wigs who are giving her the money. Their investment is down the drain. They as well as put their money in the booming stock market or lottery and come out with a jackpot than losing their shirt on this bird brain, who has absolutely no qualification to be president of the United States. Maybe president of a Welcome Wagon for Illegal immigrants in Dubuch, Ohio.

  • Most of the politicians get corrupt after they getting in to the office but Haley ahas the unique distinction of being corrupt, before getting there. Ramaswamy has exposed her in debates and now the voters know the facts.

  • Juky 2023, New Hampshire poll for VP candidate: Vivek Ramaswamy 19% and Kari Lake 17% and Nikki Haley 11%. Most of the elections the bottom line comes to the “The Economy Stupid” but this time “It is Border Stupid” . Ramaswami has some rough edges and if anybody can smoothen them, it is Trump. Trump could be his mentor and Vivek, can rise to become one of the most brilliant politician, not in 2024.. but beyond. Nikki Haley will disappear into the horizon after the Super Tuesday which is March 4th 2024.

The above two statements made by Haley are self-contradictory.

How can a person who is followed by “chaos” be “fit” to be President? Who wants a president who creates chaos?

In my opinion, none of the GOP candidates deserve to be president, especially, Trump. Even many prominent and reputable Republicans like Romney and Liz Cheney don’t want Trump to be president again. House Republicans cannot even elect their own speaker without a Herculean effort. Many of them are against funding of the Ukraine war and sound more pro-Russia than pro-Europe. Many of them will rather shut down the government than compromise on the budget negotiations. They are willing to impeach Biden without any evidence just because Trump got impeached twice. Basically, the House Republicans are nothing but Trump’s lapdog. When Trump says, “Jump”, they don’t ask, “Why?” Instead, they ask, “How high?” The fact that Trump has an excellent chance to win the nomination (unless he gets into legal trouble) is more a reflection on the GOP electorate than on Trump or GOP. Where is their moral compass? Where is their North Star?

  • A short video that depicts Trump’s anti-immigrant bias that definitely throws red meat to his white supremacist supporters. In 2015/2016 he was against illegal immigration, but this time he is against immigrants, in general. It’s puzzling to me to find the support this guy gets from so many Indian Americans. —Pradeep

  • Obama has come out saying that Biden will not be elected. The Super PAC has spent $500 million dollars on Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis and both of them cannot challenge Ramaswami who only has spent $15 million of his own money. In Michigan where Bidenwon last time Trump is leading since the union members who traditionally voted Democratic are now switching to Republican and so are affluent Jewish donors. So far 200 billion was sunk in Ukraine and to win the war in Ukraine need another 800 billion. Dictated but not edited
