NEW DELHI (ANI)- Pabitra Margherita, who studied textiles in college and now serves as the Union Minister of State for Textiles, walked as the showstopper at the Bharat Tex 2025 showcase, highlighting India’s sustainable heritage weaves at the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital.

The fashion sequence, curated by Shillong-based designer Daniel Syiem, was titled Earthloom – Threads of Heritage. Margherita, also the Minister of State for External Affairs, expressed pride in wearing Eri silk, symbolizing India’s identity.

“It was indeed a proud moment to wear our identity, the Eri silk at the show and present it to a diverse audience,” Margherita shared on social media along with a clip of his walk.

During the showcase, he wore an Eri silk shawl and waistcoat. A strong advocate for indigenous and tribal textiles, Margherita’s passion for them is evident across his social media posts.

“Strutting down the runway reminded me of my younger days, only this time, the spotlight was on our weavers and designers and their timeless creations,” Margherita recalled.

Bharat Tex 2025, held from February 14-17, builds on the success of its inaugural edition. It aims to establish itself as a premier international platform for the textile industry, featuring exhibitions, knowledge sessions, B2B networks, MoUs, product launches, and interactive pavilions. The event attracted top policymakers, global CEOs, international exhibitors, and buyers.

Focused on transforming the textile industry into a sustainable future, the event highlighted pavilions dedicated to sustainability, circularity, and digitization. It also offered fabric testing zones, product demonstrations, and master classes by experienced craftsmen.
