Varun Grover Among 9 Indians Selected For 2024 BAFTA Cohort
MUMBAI, (ANI) – Lyricist and writer Varun Grover, alongside eight other Indian creatives, has been named to the 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough cohort. The announcement was made on November 21, highlighting 43 emerging talents from the UK, USA, and India.
Supported by Netflix, the BAFTA Breakthrough program provides participants with mentorship, training, and access to global opportunities, aiming to elevate their creative journeys.
A jury of industry experts, including filmmaker Guneet Monga Kapoor, actor Ratna Pathak Shah, and Netflix India’s Monika Shergill, selected the Indian participants.
Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, added: India is brimming with storytellers, and this collaboration allows us to support emerging voices as they make their mark across industries in the creative landscape. The nine Indian creatives selected span diverse creative fields:
- Abhinav Chokhavatia – Game Producer, Down and Out
- Christo Tomy – Director, Curry and Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case
- Deepa Bhatia – Writer/Director/Producer, First Act
- Dhiman Karmakar – Sound Designer, Amar Singh Chamkila
- Jaydeep Sarkar – Showrunner/Series Director, Rainbow Rishta
- Monisha Thyagarajan – Series Producer, The Hunt for Veerappan
- Neeraj Kumar – Producer/Developer, Artifice: War Tactics
- Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy – Director/Writer/Performer, AacharCo
- Varun Grover – Writer/Director, All India Rank
Since its launch in India in 2020, the program has supported numerous creators, including Taniya Maniktala and Sumukhi Suresh, in expanding their careers. Participants gain exclusive access to BAFTA events, screenings, and networking opportunities across global creative industries.
The selection of this year’s talented cohort marks the fourth consecutive year that Indian professionals have been recognized, showcasing the country’s growing prominence in global creative landscapes.
