NEW YORK, NY- Actor-comedian Vir Das has written The Outsider: A Memoir for Misfits, offering a deep dive into his life and experiences across cultures. Sharing the book cover on social media, Das revealed that the memoir has been in the works for two years.

“I WROTE A BOOK!!!!! For ALL The Outsiders! I hope you’ll preorder and share. Laughter has truly saved my life, and I hope to show you how funny and beautiful this world is,” he wrote on Instagram, of the book that is available for preorder.  It will be released later this year on November 4.

The Outsider: A Memoir for Misfits is more than just a memoir about Das’s rise to comedic fame; it’s a powerful reflection on how being a misfit can shape one’s identity into something truly unique. His story speaks to anyone who has ever felt out of place, serving as a testament to the resilience and humor that can arise when you resist the urge to fit in, and stay true to who you are.

Published by Simon & Schuster, the memoir explores his journey through multiple identities and places, highlighting how he’s always felt like an outsider—even in comedy. One memorable incident he recounts is being stranded on a pier in Cozumel, Mexico, as his cruise ship sailed away due to visa issues, reinforcing his lifelong sense of not quite belonging.

Reflecting on his globe-trotting life, Das said, “I’ve been the Indian kid in Nigeria, the African kid in boarding school, the Delhi kid in Illinois, the Chicago guy in Alabama, the Bollywood guy in comedy, and the stand-up comedian in Bollywood. When you’ve stepped into so many worlds, you write a book about it. I hope to take readers across the world through the eyes of a fortunate fool.”
