CINCINNATI, OH – Entrepreneur and Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has kept his focus on education and national pride.

“Seventy-five percent of 8th graders aren’t proficient in math. Less than 16% of Gen Z says they’re proud to be American. These aren’t unrelated,” Ramaswamy wrote in a recent social media post, arguing that strengthening STEM education is key to reviving a sense of national purpose.

His remarks followed a discussion with leadership at the Center of Science and Industry in Ohio, where he explored strategies to improve STEM education and bolster civic engagement. The Cincinnati native has long been vocal about the state of American education, advocating for a curriculum that prioritizes math, science, and historical awareness.

Ramaswamy’s comments has often waded into the national debate on education policy. He has argued that declining academic performance poses a national security risk, particularly in relation to global competitors like China. He has also been vocal about promoting an education system that rewards excellence and hard work, warning against what he describes as a culture of victimhood.

As part of his 2026 gubernatorial campaign, Ramaswamy has outlined several key education policies. He has called for merit-based pay for teachers, implementing performance-based compensation to encourage educational excellence. He also proposes a civics test for high school graduation, requiring students to pass an exam similar to the U.S. naturalization test to strengthen their understanding of American principles. Additionally, he advocates for a ban on cell phones in schools, prohibiting their use during school hours to minimize distractions and enhance academic performance.
