Four India-Bound Fertilizer Ships Sail Safely Out Of Hormuz

NEW DELHI- Four cargo ships carrying shipments of urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and sulphur from the Persian Gulf are headed to Indian ports after successfully crossing the Strait of Hormuz last week, according to an official statement issued on June 22.

The vessels are currently en route to Krishnapatnam, Kakinada, Paradeep and Mundra ports. Upon arrival, the imports will supplement India’s fertilizer reserves and support agricultural requirements, the statement said.

India’s cumulative fertilizer stock stood at 196.08 lakh tons as of June 22, up from 168.67 lakh tons during the corresponding period last year. The inventory includes 81.44 lakh tons of urea, 20.92 lakh tons of DAP, 55.91 lakh tons of NPK, 12.68 lakh tons of MOP and 25.13 lakh tons of SSP.

The government said it has strengthened domestic production and import arrangements to ensure adequate fertilizer supplies amid disruptions linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis. (IANS)
