Mamdani Taps Etsy CEO Kruti Patel Goyal For New York Business Council

NEW YORK, NY – New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani’s Business Advisory Council to advise City Hall on the city’s economic priorities, will have Etsy Chief Executive Officer Kruti Patel Goyal as one of its 15 business leaders.

Mamdani created the advisory council to involve business leaders in discussions about the city’s economic future, especially in sectors where New York can lead nationally and globally. The group forms at a time when the city reports 4,852,400 total jobs as of July 2026, a 5% unemployment rate, and $21.2 billion raised in venture capital funding to date.

On the new council, Goyal will join executive leaders from finance, technology, real estate, sports, entertainment, retail, food, and health care. The panel will meet quarterly with Mayor Mamdani and Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su to offer strategic guidance on the infrastructure, talent pipeline, and regulatory environment needed for those industries.

Goyal brings a career spanning technology, strategy, and marketplace operations to this civic role. Born in Canada, she moved to the United States with her parents, who ran a small motel in upstate New York where they were the only Indian family in town. Living in an apartment above the motel, Goyal worked the front desk, cleaned rooms, and handled laundry, an experience she credits with teaching her the value of hard work, resilience, and taking calculated financial risks. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in economics from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

She started her professional career in mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley and growth equity at General Atlantic Partners before handling strategy and business development at Viacom.
