No Pakistani Kashmir: India Calls Out NYT Over Misleading Headline

NEW DELHI-The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on July 31 reiterated that the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir, including the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, remains an integral and inalienable part of India, while urging all partners and stakeholders to use the correct nomenclature for the territory.

Responding to a question on foreign media’s description of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), MEA spokesperson said, “We are very clear that the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, are integral and inalienable parts of India. That is the position.”

“These areas/territories were part of India, are part of India, and will continue to be part of India, and we would urge all our partners and stakeholders that they should reflect the correct nomenclature of the area the way we understand,” he added.

The MEA’s remarks came after ‘The New York Times’ referred to PoJK in a report on the ongoing unrest in the region in a manner that India objected to.

On July 29, the Embassy of India in Washington criticized the headline used by ‘The New York Times’, calling it “misleading and incorrect” and reiterating India’s position that there is “no Pakistani Kashmir, only Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.”

“Misleading and incorrect headline by The New York Times. There is no Pakistani Kashmir, only Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. Pakistan has illegally occupied parts of these territories and is now using violence against the occupied people,” the embassy posted on X. (IANS)
