Sumeet Raghavan Recalls Hilarious ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’ Scene With Satish Shah
MUMBAI-Actor Sumeet Raghavan, who is receiving positive response for his work in the recently released show ‘Chumbak’, has recalled a memorable anecdote from the iconic sitcom ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, including an improvised line from a scene he filmed with late actor Satish Shah and Rajesh Kumar.
The episode, ‘Teen Pair Wala Kutta’, featured Raghavan’s character getting drunk with the characters played by Satish Shah and Rajesh Kumar, leading to a hilariously serious rant under the influence of alcohol.
Recalling the scene, Raghavan said, “There are a lot of anecdotes. Satish Kaka (Satish Shah) is not with us today. But whenever ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ is mentioned, we remember his character in the show. So in that episode, especially in this scene, it was absolutely fantastic. There was a line, insurance is honest. Something to that effect, it was fully improvised, it was incredible.”
‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ is one of Indian television’s best-known sitcoms, celebrated for its intelligent humor, eccentric characters and sharp observations about class and family dynamics. Created by JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, the show premiered in 2004 and revolved around the affluent Sarabhai family living in Mumbai.
At its center was the relationship between sophisticated, upper-class matriarch Maya Sarabhai, played by Ratna Pathak Shah, and her middle-class daughter-in-law Monisha, played by Rupali Ganguly. Their contrasting personalities and lifestyles became a defining source of the show’s humor.
The memorable ensemble also included Satish Shah, Sumeet Raghavan and Rajesh Kumar. Unlike many Indian sitcoms, the series relied heavily on situational comedy, witty dialogue and character-driven humor rather than exaggerated slapstick.
The show went on to develop a strong cult following through television reruns and online streaming, with its characters and dialogue continuing to resonate with audiences. (IANS)
