BAPS Scholar Bhadreshdas Swami Recognized For His Contributions To Philosophy, Sanskrit

NEW DELHI- BAPS scholar and Sanskrit philosopher Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. Bhadreshdas Swami has been conferred the title of “Vedantavidya-Vishwaguru” by Central Sanskrit University for his contribution to Vedanta, Sanskrit scholarship and the study of Indian philosophical traditions.

Dr. Bhadreshdas Swami dedicated the honor to Bhagwan Swaminarayan and his gurus, Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj.

Dr. Bhadreshdas Swami heads the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute in New Delhi and serves as a Distinguished Professor at IIT Kharagpur and Distinguished Visiting Professor at IIT Roorkee. He holds an M.A., Ph.D. and D.Litt., as well as an honorary Doctor of Science degree from IIT Kharagpur.

His best-known works include the Swaminarayan Bhashyam, a series of Sanskrit commentaries on the Prasthanatrayi — the Upanishads, Brahmasutras and Bhagavad Gita. He also authored ‘Swaminarayana Siddhanta Sudha’, a Sanskrit work presenting the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan, the Vedantic philosophy associated with Bhagwan Swaminarayan.

Dr. Bhadreshdas Swami has received several major academic and literary honors, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, Saraswati Samman, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Council of Philosophical Research and the Mahamahopadhyaya title from Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University.

The honor was presented on August 9 at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi, in a ceremony attended by prominent Sanskrit scholars and academics.

Among those present at the ceremony were Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of the Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha in Udupi, Central Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Srinivasa Varkhedi, Shree Somnath Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sukanta Kumar Senapati, and scholars including Prof. V. Narayanan, Prof. Omnath Bimli, Prof. Muralikrishna and Prof. Ganesh T. Pandit.
