NEW YORK, NY – New Jersey-based author Meghana Karanjkar will release her debut short story collection, ‘First Generation,’ on October 27 through Atmosphere Press. The book comprises 12 stories set across India and the US.

The stories explore immigration, identity, family expectations, relationships and the search for belonging. The characters include a first-generation immigrant adjusting to life in a new country, a young man dealing with a life-altering illness and three young women who encounter a threatening situation while traveling through rural Pennsylvania at night.

The collection also examines displacement and the experiences of foster children, people facing homelessness and others whose lives have been shaped by circumstances beyond their control.

Kirkus Reviews describes the collection as exploring “a variety of complex, emotional life situations.” Award-winning short story writer Aimee LaBrie, author of ‘Rage and Other Cages,’ has also praised Karanjkar’s writing, describing it as “both lyrical and precise.”

Originally from India, Karanjkar lives in New Jersey. Her work has appeared in The Adelaide Journal, The Blue Mountain Review, In Parentheses and Prosetrics. Her work has also appeared in Appetite, an anthology published by Penguin India. Her poetry was published in ‘Look Away Now’ by Linen Press in the United Kingdom.

‘First Generation’ is available for pre-order on Amazon.
