Shilpa Rao’s Husband Slams Organisers Over Singer’s Treatment

MUMBAI-Ritesh Krishnan, husband of singer Shilpa Rao, has criticized the organizers of the Bollywood Music Project concert in Mumbai after his wife’s performance was cut short, saying he felt angry, disappointed and helpless watching her being treated with disrespect.

In a social media post, Krishnan said the incident at the event on October 24 had deeply hurt him, adding that he would never forget seeing his wife treated that way.

“I felt angry. I felt disappointed. I felt helpless!! And more than anything, it hurt to see someone I love and admire so deeply being put through this,” he wrote.

He said audiences know Shilpa Rao for her singing, but he knows the person behind the voice and how much her fans mean to her.

“And to stand there last night, watching my wife being treated with such disrespect, was something I will never forget!” he wrote, accusing BMP of trying to convince people that the incident had not happened as they witnessed it.

Krishnan also criticized the organizers for not allowing the singer even two minutes to conclude her performance and thank her audience.

“And above all, denying a fellow artist just two minutes to say goodbye to her audience was selfish, petty, shameless and utterly classless!! To everyone who stood by her, THANK YOU,” he wrote.

He praised his wife and assured fans that she would return to Mumbai.

“Shilpa, I am incredibly proud of you my love. Mumbai, we will be back. Your love deserves a beautiful ending. And we owe you that,” he added.

The incident took place during the 10th anniversary edition of the Bollywood Music Project in Mumbai on October 24. Shilpa Rao was performing when her microphone and stage lights were reportedly switched off before she could properly conclude her set. As she attempted to address the audience and thank her fans, another performer, Kutle Khan, began his set.

The incident drew criticism on social media, with fans expressing disappointment over the way the singer’s performance was brought to an abrupt end.

Shilpa Rao also addressed the incident in a social media post, saying the experience had left her heartbroken but that the audience’s support had meant a great deal to her.

“Mumbai, a little piece of my heart broke tonight. It hurts deeply to have something so beautiful taken away from us like this. But even when the music stopped, you did not. The way you kept calling my name, the love in your voices. I could feel it all. Our story tonight was left unfinished. I promise, I will come back. I love you, Mumbai. Forever and ever. Shilpa,” she wrote.

Shilpa Rao is known for songs such as ‘Khuda Jaane’ and ‘Chaleya’. She won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for ‘Chaleya’ from the film ‘Jawan’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara. (IANS)
