Anahat Singh’s Canadian Open Run Ends With Injury
TORONTO- Indian squash player Anahat Singh withdrew from the Canadian Women’s Open due to injury ahead of her quarterfinal match, according to the PSA Tour website.
The world No. 15 had defeated England’s Saran Nghiem in four games to reach the quarterfinals of the PSA Silver-level tournament. She was scheduled to face Egyptian world No. 7 and top seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir in the last eight.
Aboelkheir has now received a walkover into the semifinals in Toronto following Anahat’s withdrawal.
Last week, Anahat stunned Egyptian eight-time world champion Nour ElSherbini in straight games at the Silicon Valley Open in Redwood City, California. The victory was the biggest of her career.
At the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Anahat became the first Indian woman to reach the squash singles final at the continental event. She won the silver medal after losing 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7) to defending champion Sivasangari Subramaniam of Malaysia.
Earlier this year, Anahat won the girls’ singles title at the World Junior Squash Championships, becoming the first Indian to claim the crown and ending Egypt’s 15-year reign in the event. (IANS)
