DUBAI: A pair of 22-karat gold jhumkas weighing 16.514 kg has set two Guinness World Records, earning titles for the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of earrings.

Created by retailer Joyalukkas, the earrings, named Mayura Sahasra, were unveiled on October 24 at the Jewel of Joy showroom in Dubai. They measure 1.215 meters in length and 0.682 meters in diameter.

The design retains the traditional bell-shaped form of Indian jhumkas, with patterns inspired by peacock feathers. The name Mayura Sahasra means “A Thousand Peacocks” and draws on a legend about a divine peacock shedding a thousand feathers, each carrying a prayer, wish or dream.

A team of 55 artisans spent a total of 5,840 hours crafting the earrings over several months. The Guinness World Records title for the heaviest pair of gold earrings was achieved on October 12.

UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri unveiled the earrings in the presence of Guinness World Records representatives, who presented the two certificates.

Joyalukkas CEO John Paul Alukkas said that the company wanted to mark its 40 years in the United Arab Emirates with a creation dedicated to Dubai.

Joyalukkas chairman Joy Alukkas described the earrings as a tribute to Dubai and the artisans who made them.

The earrings are not for sale and will remain on permanent display at the Jewel of Joy showroom in Dubai Gold District.
