Junior League Kicks Off Campaign To Ignite Volunteerism Across America

NEW YORK, NY – As National Volunteer Month begins this April, the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) is calling on individuals nationwide to take action through its “Jump In & Join” campaign. This initiative aims to encourage civic engagement, build stronger social bonds, and promote the transformative power of volunteerism.
The campaign is inspired by the research and insights of experts like U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, who recently highlighted the profound impact of community involvement. In his My Parting Prescription for America, Murthy emphasized that “community is a powerful source of life satisfaction and life expectancy,” pointing out that as civic institutions decline, many individuals struggle with a lack of belonging. Service, he notes, is a vital bridge to fill that gap, strengthening both personal purpose and societal progress.
Junior Leagues across the country are encouraging individuals to engage with service-based organizations, stressing that volunteering is not just about giving back—it’s about experiencing personal growth and making a meaningful impact. “Through ‘Jump In & Join,’ we invite individuals to witness firsthand the transformative effects of volunteering,” said Melanie Schild, AJLI CEO. “Research, including studies from the Mayo Clinic, shows that volunteering improves mental and physical well-being, benefiting both individuals and the communities they serve.”
The campaign extends beyond The Junior League, calling for participation from all service organizations. “Volunteering is an investment in yourself and your community. Together, we can turn passion into action and make a lasting impact,” Schild added.
