WASHINGTON,D.C.– Vaibhav Taneja, currently the Chief Financial Officer at Tesla, has officially been appointed Treasurer and Custodian of Records for Elon Musk’s recently launched political party, the “America Party.” Taneja’s role was confirmed through paperwork submitted to the US Federal Election Commission.
Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Space X and Tesla, announced the formation of the America Party, stating on X: “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Taneja earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Delhi University in 1999, followed by his qualification as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 2000. He worked at Solar City which was later acquired by Tesla. In January 2021, he was appointed as the director of Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited, headquartered in Bangalore.
Musk, who was a significant political donor to Donald Trump’s 2024 election campaign, has had a public falling out with the president. This rift intensified after Musk, as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), clashed with Trump over his extensive domestic spending plans, which Musk argued would inflate US national debt. Musk has vowed to oppose lawmakers who supported such spending.
The impact of the new America Party on the upcoming 2026 mid-term elections and the subsequent presidential vote remains to be seen.
Further details regarding the Trump-Musk feud emerged recently when Trump pushed for his domestic agenda, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk fiercely opposed this legislation, criticizing its Republican proponents for supporting “debt slavery.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who previously worked with Musk at DOGE, commented on CNN’s “State of the Union” on July 6 regarding Musk’s political endeavors. Bessent stated that while DOGE’s principles were popular, “if you look at the polling, Elon was not.” He added, “I imagine that those board of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities.”
