First Pak, Now Netanyahu: World Leaders Look To Flatter Trump with Nobel Prize Noms

WASHINGTON, D.C. — First it was Pakistan. Now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also looking to flatter former President Donald Trump—this time by nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

During a private dinner at the White House on July 7, Netanyahu handed Trump a copy of the letter he sent to the Nobel Committee, praising the former president’s role in “forging peace” and especially citing his administration’s role in the Abraham Accords.

“The President has already realized great opportunities. He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak,” Netanyahu said. “So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize—which is well deserved.”

Trump, visibly surprised, responded: “This I did not know. Wow, thank you very much. Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful.”

Netanyahu also lauded Trump’s leadership “of the free world” and said he represents “a just cause and the pursuit of peace and security… especially in the Middle East.” The two leaders held their third meeting this year amid heightened global criticism of Israel’s continued military operations in Gaza and rising domestic pressure from families of Israeli hostages.

The Israeli nomination comes weeks after Pakistan’s government also announced its intention to formally recommend Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Trump has repeatedly claimed he prevented war between the two nuclear-armed nations, though New Delhi attributes the de-escalation to India’s military response.
