NEW DELHI- Prominent INDIA bloc leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, were detained by Delhi Police on August 10 while marching to the Election Commission of India’s office. The protest was aimed at raising concerns over alleged “voter fraud” in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Special Intensive Revision process in Bihar.

The protest march, which began at the Makar Dwar of Parliament, saw MPs raising slogans of ‘vote chor’ (vote thief) as they proceeded towards Nirvachan Sadan.

Senior leaders like Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar also joined the demonstration. Delhi Police stated that the protest did not have the necessary permission, and the detained MPs, which included Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut and TMC’s Sagarika Ghose, were taken to the Parliament Street police station.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was seen jumping over police barricades to continue the protest, shouting, “They are using the police to stop us.”

Congress leader Supriya Sule emphasized the peaceful nature of their demonstration, stating, “We consider Mahatma Gandhi as our ideal.”

Rahul Gandhi clarified the purpose of the protest, saying, “This fight is not political. This fight is to save the Constitution… for ‘One Man, One Vote.’ We want a clean, pure voters list.”  (With ANI inputs)
