Best Actor Award For Shishir Sharma At DC Film Festival

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Shishir Sharma won the Best Actor award at the DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) in Washington DC for his role in the LGBTQ-themed film, ‘Kuch Sapney Apne’. This marks the twelfth accolade for the film and the second-Best Actor award for Sharma, who portrays a patriarchal father accepting his gay son.
DCSAFF director Manoj Singh lauded Sharma’s “powerful performance,” noting the film’s bold exploration of social issues resonated with audiences. Singh also highlighted Sharma’s presence in two other films at the festival, ‘Qafas’ and ‘Chashma’.
Sharma expressed his gratitude, calling the award “a wonderful recognition of our efforts.” He acknowledged the organizers, jury, and his fellow cast and directors.
Sridhar Rangayan, the film’s co-director, said Sharma’s win was “icing on the cake” following the positive audience reception. He believes the award confirms that “good films always shine.” The film, screened at 24 international festivals, previously earned Sharma a Best Actor award at the New Bedford International Film Festival.
‘Kuch Sapney Apne’ is a romantic drama about a gay couple navigating challenges. It delves into family dynamics and uncomfortable truths. The film stars Shishir Sharma, Mona Ambegaonkar, Satvik Bhatia, and Arpit Chaudhary.
