NEW YORK, NY — Raj Goyle, a CEO, attorney, and former legislator, has formally entered the race for New York State Comptroller, pledging to overhaul an office he says has grown complacent under longtime incumbent Tom DiNapoli.

Goyle, who once served in the Kansas House of Representatives and later built a New York City tech company, cast himself as the only candidate with both public and private sector credentials. “I know how to manage money and fight tough battles,” he said. “This office doesn’t need a caretaker. It needs a leader willing to use its massive powers to make life better for New Yorkers.”

The Comptroller is sole trustee of the nation’s third-largest public pension fund, overseeing more than $280 billion. Goyle argued that DiNapoli has mismanaged those resources, pointing to billions spent on Wall Street fees and investments in out-of-state real estate. “That’s real money with little to show for it, and it reflects the wrong priorities,” he said.

Goyle’s platform centers on affordability and accountability. He vowed to redirect pension dollars into affordable housing in New York, expand investments in childcare infrastructure, crack down on exploitative business practices, and root out government corruption. He also framed the office as a frontline defense against Donald Trump’s agenda, saying he would coordinate with other blue-state pension funds to push back against corporate practices that harm consumers.

Challenging DiNapoli, who has held the office since 2007, Goyle said the incumbent embodies Albany’s “go-along-to-get-along culture.” He highlighted his own track record of defeating entrenched Republicans in Kansas and building a startup from scratch.

“This is the most powerful state executive office in America,” Goyle said. “Right now, that power is being squandered. I intend to change that.”
