ICC Suspends USA Cricket Over Governance Failures
NEW DELHI- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket (USAC) with immediate effect, citing repeated and continued breaches of its obligations as a member. The decision follows a thorough review and extensive engagement with key stakeholders over the past year.
The ICC described the action as “an unfortunate but necessary” step to protect the long-term interests of the game. The suspension was triggered by several issues, including the failure to implement a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward achieving National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and significant actions that have caused reputational damage.
The ICC confirmed that despite the suspension, U.S. national teams will retain their right to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. To ensure continued support for the players, the management and administration of the national teams will be temporarily overseen by the ICC and its designated representatives.
An ICC Normalisation Committee, headed by Jay Shah, will now work to outline the steps required for the suspension to be lifted and for USA Cricket’s membership rights to be restored. The committee will monitor progress and provide consultative support, with a focus on specific, demonstrable changes to the organization’s governance structure, operations, and overall status. (ANI)
