NEW DELHI— Ravi Laxmi Chitrakar, wife of former Nepal Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, has been flown to India for advanced medical treatment after suffering serious burn injuries during violent protests in Kathmandu.

The injuries occurred on September 9, when protestors attacked Khanal’s residence amid the ‘Gen Z’ demonstrations. The unrest, which escalated into violent clashes, caused significant property damage and left several people injured.

Reports indicate that Chitrakar sustained severe burns over roughly 15 percent of her body, including extensive damage to her left hand, along with respiratory complications from smoke inhalation.

Doctors overseeing her recovery recommended advanced medical intervention unavailable locally, prompting her transfer to New Delhi for specialized care.

Jhalanath Khanal served as Nepal’s prime minister from February to August 2011 and remains an influential political figure in the country.
