EDISON, NJ – Edison Mayor Sam Joshi highlighted the scale and significance of his inauguration in a Facebook post, thanking residents for turning out in large numbers as he began his second term in office. “Incredibly grateful to have nearly a thousand residents come out to Edison’s Inauguration for Mayor and Council,” Joshi wrote
He was sworn into office by Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill, with outgoing Governor Phil Murphy and his wife, Niyati Joshi, by his side. He also congratulated newly sworn-in council members Kellie Dima, Robert Kentos, and Biral Patel, and said he looked forward to working with Governor Sherrill.
Born and raised in Edison, Joshi’s return to office marked a continuation of his leadership in the township, backed by a decisive electoral mandate and strong public turnout at his inauguration.

The January 4 ceremony drew close to 1,000 people to the Edison Youth Sports Complex. The large venue was chosen to accommodate the crowd that gathered to witness Joshi return to office after securing reelection with 72 percent of the vote.
The event was attended by a wide range of dignitaries, including several state and local lawmakers. Sherrill formally administered the oath of office to Joshi, underscoring the political significance of the moment as New Jersey prepared for a transition in leadership at the state level.
Members of the Edison City Council were also sworn in during the ceremony, with Biral Patel among those taking office alongside the mayor.
