LOS ANGELES, CA — Actress, writer, and filmmaker Anita Kalathara has joined the cast of ABC’s long-running medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in a recurring role as the new Plastics Fellow at Grey Sloan Memorial. Her character appears again in the latest episode airing October 30, featuring key scenes opposite Jesse Williams’ Dr. Jackson Avery.
Since her debut, Kalathara said the response from South Asian audiences has been “incredible,” adding that many viewers have expressed how meaningful it is to see Indians represented in major medical roles — particularly in a field where Indians make up a large portion of real-life medical professionals. “It’s been truly humbling to see how deeply the representation resonates,” she shared.
Born in White Plains, New York, Kalathara has built an eclectic career spanning television, film, and stage. She has appeared in ‘Quantum Leap,’ DC’s ‘Doom Patrol,’ and the Hulu feature ‘India Sweets & Spices,’ which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also voices Kavi Sharma, American Girl’s first South Asian doll, and the first South Asian troll in DreamWorks’ ‘Trollstopia.’
Beyond acting, Kalathara is a filmmaker and writer who continues to develop screenplays spotlighting complex South Asian women defying cultural expectations.
