Business Owner Arrested On Kidnap And Assault Charges

LOUISVILLE, KY – Business owner, Kaushalkumar Patel, 40, has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and assaulting a man suspected of stealing vape pens from his store.
The incident had occurred on October 6, 2024, at Patel’s E-Z Super Food Mart. Authorities allege that Patel, along with others, chased the suspect after he allegedly stole a box of vape pens.
According to police, Patel and his group pursued the man in a van, using pepper spray before forcing him into the vehicle. They allegedly took the suspect to a nearby garage, where he was physically assaulted. The group is accused of punching the man and hitting him with a piece of wood during the attack.
The victim was later abandoned on Lee Street, where his mother found him and transported him to the hospital. Medical staff treated him for a concussion, bruising, and injuries requiring stitches.
Patel was arrested on January 16 and faces charges of kidnapping, second-degree assault, and wanton endangerment. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held at the Louisville Metro Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Patel is scheduled to appear in court on January 24.
