CoHNA Condemns “Campaign Of Hate” Against Hindu Americans

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) has condemned what it describes as a coordinated campaign of misinformation and hate targeting Hindu American communities. CoHNA said in a press release that extremist groups, including the transnational Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), have escalated their attacks by spreading baseless allegations of disloyalty against “Indo American Hindus.”
“This mirrors the harmful trope of dual loyalty historically used to scapegoat and marginalize minorities in the U.S.,” said Nikunj Trivedi, president of CoHNA. “We must challenge this narrative and protect the rights of all Americans.”
The statement follows a recent controversy where a coalition of Islamist organizations and Hindus for Human Rights called for an investigation into Indian American groups over a float at the NYC India Day Parade that depicted a sacred Hindu temple. The float was labeled an “anti-Muslim” symbol. Trivedi called this accusation a “provocative stance” that undermines Hindu cultural celebrations.
CoHNA claims that the targeting of Hindu advocacy organizations is part of a broader effort involving groups like the Bridge Initiative at Georgetown University, Professor Audrey Truschke of Rutgers University, and SFJ. According to CoHNA, these groups are engaged in a concerted campaign to undermine Hindu American organizations, supported by figures known for anti-Hindu rhetoric.
CoHNA also pointed to the involvement of Khalistani extremists in hate crimes against American Hindus, citing incidents of vandalism at Hindu temples and attacks on Gandhi statues as part of a growing trend of Hinduphobia, amplified by certain academic and media platforms.
