The Legend of Meneka by Kritika H Rao

India-West Staff Reporter

Kritika H. Rao’s latest novel, ‘The Legend of Meneka,’ releasing in January 2025 reimagines the most famous romance in Hindu mythology, centering on the immortal celestial nymph, or apsara, and a powerful human sage. This unique and thoughtful journey explores themes of female empowerment and the complexities of love.

‘The Legend of Meneka’ is perfect for fans of Circe, Daughter of the Moon Goddess, and Kaikeyi. The story offers an alluring and magical tale of romance and inner conflict, a press statement from publishers Harper Collins said.

In the novel, Meneka, an apsara serving under Lord Indra, the king of heaven, is assigned a dangerous mission in the mortal realm. Known for her seductive powers, Meneka has reluctantly used her abilities to destroy lives. Her new task is to seduce and destroy the human sage Kaushika, whose magic poses a threat to Indra and heaven itself. If she succeeds, Meneka will be allowed to forgo future missions.

However, when Meneka meets Kaushika, she finds him to be a brooding yet soft-hearted sage, unlike anyone she has encountered before. As she spends time with him, unexpected feelings develop, challenging her sense of duty. Torn between her heavenly obligations and her heart, Meneka faces an impossible choice. And when Kaushika discovers her true identity, their relationship hangs in the balance.

New York Times bestselling author Thea Guanzon described the book as “a feast for the senses.”
