IPL: Riyan Parag Under Fire After Alleged Dressing Room Smoking Incident

NEW CHANDIGARH-Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag came under scrutiny after videos allegedly showing him vaping inside the team dressing room went viral during his side’s Indian Premier League 2026 match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh on April 28.

The incident surfaced in the 16th over of the second innings when a broadcast camera briefly showed Parag holding what appeared to be a vape device. The footage quickly spread on social media, prompting reactions from fans and calls for possible action.

The moment drew added attention because it came shortly after Parag was dismissed for 29 off 16 balls during Rajasthan Royals’ chase of a big target.

The video has since raised questions over whether any disciplinary steps could follow. While there is no publicly stated rule specifically mentioning vaping, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has player conduct regulations inside stadium premises. The use of tobacco or related products in dressing rooms or dugouts is generally restricted under health and safety protocols.

The controversy comes during a demanding season for the 24-year-old, who is leading Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 after former captain Sanju Samson moved to Chennai Super Kings. Before this match, Parag had scored 81 runs in seven innings and faced criticism over his batting form.

Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh and officially warned for using a mobile phone inside the dugout during the IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on April 10. (IANS)
