LOS ANGELES, CA -Mayor Eric Garcetti had nominated Indian American Jessica Lall to serve on the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Commission on May 2 to fill the vacancy left by former Commissioner Kelli Bernard. Lall has now been confirmed by the City Council.

“Jessica has spent her career working to make prosperity and opportunity available to all Angelenos, especially the most vulnerable among us,” said Garcetti. “She embodies the qualities of leadership, determination, and creativity that we all strive for in public service, and I know that she will breathe new life and bring fresh perspectives to meeting the challenges we face.”

LAHSA is a joint powers authority of the City and County of Los Angeles, responsible for coordinating and managing over $880 million annually in federal, state, county, and city funds for programs providing shelter, housing, and services to people experiencing homelessness.  The entity is governed by an appointed 10-member commission, with five appointments nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council.

“Our city’s homelessness crisis is deeply personal to me, and I’ve dedicated my career to realizing our great city’s potential including advancing comprehensive solutions to homelessness,” said Lall. “I’m humbled that Mayor Garcetti has nominated me to serve on the LAHSA Commission. I am ready to meet our challenges with urgency and will work to improve coordination across all levels of government and to ensure that the agency delivers for the most vulnerable Angelenos.”

Lall currently serves as the President and CEO of Central City Association (CCA), which represents the interests of over 300 businesses, trade associations, and nonprofit organizations in L.A. County. Prior to this, she served as Executive Director of the South Park Business Improvement District in Downtown Los Angeles, where she led the development of an economic development plan and public art initiative for neighborhoods across the city.

Lall grew up in Texas and England, the daughter of an Indian immigrant father and mother of a military family from Oklahoma. She is a graduate of USC.

Lall has previously held the roles under former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and in Austin Beutner’s mayoral campaign. She also serves on the boards of the University of Southern California Board of Governors, Goodwill Southern California, Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, and Coro Southern California.
