WASHINGTON, DC – Kash Patel was officially sworn in as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on February 21, taking the oath on the Bhagavad Gita in a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. His family and girlfriend stood by his side.
Administered by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Patel’s swearing-in follows his confirmation by the U.S. Senate, where he was approved in a 51-49 vote.
During his remarks, Patel highlighted his journey as a first-generation Indian American and emphasized the significance of the “American Dream.” He stated, “Anyone who thinks the American Dream is dead, look right here. You’re talking to a first-generation Indian kid who is about to lead the law enforcement community in the greatest nation on God’s Earth.”
Following the ceremony, Patel visited the Wall of Honor at FBI headquarters to pay tribute to agents who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Meanwhile, in his ancestral home of Bhadran village in Gujarat’s Anand district, his distant relative Yash Patel called his appointment “a matter of pride” and said the entire village was celebrating the milestone.
The White House welcomed Patel’s confirmation, calling it a step toward restoring integrity and upholding the rule of law. In a statement, it said, “The FBI will serve the American people and refocus on its core mission: enforcing justice fairly and without bias.”
