LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council has officially designated January 6, 2027, as “Diljit Dosanjh Day,” recognizing Indian Punjabi singer, actor and Bollywood star Diljit Dosanjh for his contributions to music and entertainment and for increasing South Asian representation in mainstream American culture.

The civic resolution was presented to Dosanjh by Los Angeles City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez on June 19 during his visit to the United States as part of his ongoing Dil-Luminati Tour.

A video shared online showed Dosanjh appearing surprised by the honor. According to footage of the event, the singer said he was “speechless” before singing a line from his 2009 track ‘Los Angeles’.

His team later shared news of the recognition on Instagram, posting a copy of the resolution with the caption, “Big News.”

The recognition comes as the Indian Punjabi artist’s influence continues to grow in India and internationally. Dosanjh became the first Punjabi artist to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2023 and has also built a successful Bollywood career, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for ‘Udta Punjab’. His latest film, director Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, was released on June 12.

The Los Angeles resolution marks a significant civic honor for the Punjabi star in the United States and reflects his growing influence among South Asian audiences and beyond.
