Man Confesses To Killing US Born Daughter Over TikTok Videos
India-West News Desk
NEW DELHI – A Pakistani man has admitted to fatally shooting his 15-year-old daughter in Quetta, Pakistan, allegedly over her TikTok activity, police said. The incident occurred on January 28, with the suspect, Anwar ul-Haq, initially blaming unidentified attackers before confessing to the crime.
The teenage victim was born in the U.S., where the family had lived for 25 years before recently relocating to Pakistan. Investigators believe family objections to her clothing, lifestyle, and social media presence may have led to the killing. “We are looking into all possibilities, including honor-related motives,” said police official Zohaib Mohsin. Authorities have seized the girl’s phone, though it remains locked.
Haq, a U.S. citizen, told police he was angered by his daughter’s TikTok videos, which he deemed inappropriate. His brother-in-law has also been arrested in connection with the case.
The murder has reignited concerns about the clash between Pakistan’s conservative values and the influence of social media. TikTok, with over 54 million users in the country, has faced repeated bans and crackdowns over content deemed immoral.
