NEW YORK, NY – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated the New York Knicks reaching the NBA Finals with a clever political -sports combination social media post after the team swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Knicks defeated Cleveland 130-93 in Game 4 on May 25 night, securing a 4-0 series victory and advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

Moments after the Knicks clinched the series, Mamdani tagged New York City’s sanitation department account on social media and wrote, “I’d like to report a sweep.”

The city sanitation account responded, “CLEAN UP IN CLEVELAND!!”

Mamdani has publicly supported the Knicks throughout the postseason and was seen attending Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks will now face either the San Antonio Spurs or the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals, which begin June 3.
