WASHINGTON, DC – The Guardian US announced on February 21 that award-winning writer and broadcaster Mehdi Hasan will join its newsroom as a regular columnist. He is the former host of The Mehdi Hasan Show on MSNBC which was canceled in headline grabbing acrimony in November 2023, and the author of the New York Times bestseller Win Every Argument.

Hasan is a British-American born to immigrant Indian Hyderabadi parents.

US Editor Betsy Reed said, “I’m thrilled that Mehdi has chosen to join the Guardian US. We’re proud to provide a platform for his incisive political commentary, relentless advocacy for human rights and free speech, and fearless accountability for those in power.”

Hasan said, “I have been poring over columns in the Guardian since I was a teenager. Now, I get to write some of my own in what is perhaps one of the busiest and biggest news years of my lifetime. It’s a huge honor and a privilege.”

Guardian Media Group (GMG) is the publisher of theguardian.com, one of the largest English-speaking news websites in the world. Since launching its US and Australian digital editions in 2011 and 2013, respectively, traffic from outside the UK now represents around two-thirds of the Guardian’s digital audience.

The Guardian US has more than 100 editorial staff members across bureaus in New York, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. In 2022, the Guardian US averaged 41 million unique visitors per.
