BROOKLYN, NY – Mumbai-born chef Dipesh Shinde has joined Badshah Social in Brooklyn as R&D chef, working with chef-owner Abishek Sharma on the restaurant’s menu.
Shinde began cooking professionally as a teenager in Mumbai and later worked at restaurants in India before moving to New York. He served as culinary director at Kebab aur Sharab and also worked at Kanyakumari. Both restaurants have been recognized by the Michelin Guide.
His cooking includes regional Indian techniques, live-fire preparation, kebabs and breads, as well as Indian street food and comfort food.
At Badshah Social, Shinde and Sharma are developing dishes that draw from Indian regional traditions, reimagined street food and seasonal ingredients. The menu includes Dori Kebab and Chapli Kebab.
Sharma grew up working at his family’s Upper West Side restaurant, Swagat. He later opened Madam Ji in the West Village and A13 Events, a catering and destination-wedding company.
Badshah Social, which opened recently near Barclays Center, serves reimagined Indian street food, regional specialties, cocktails, weekend brunch and event-night dining.
The collaboration gives the restaurant a menu shaped by Shinde’s experience in India and New York and Sharma’s background in New York’s Indian restaurant industry, a press release said.
