FRISCO, TX — No Indian American candidate secured victory in Frisco’s latest city council elections of May 2, a result that comes against the backdrop of heated local debates over immigration, visas and the city’s rapidly growing Indian origin community.

The North Texas city, part of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, has in recent months drawn attention for contentious public meetings where residents clashed over demographic changes and the visibility of Indian Americans. Protests and community pushback have followed, with many rejecting narratives targeting immigrants and professionals on temporary visas.

Against this charged atmosphere, three Indian American candidates failed to gain enough support in races for two council seats. In the Place 5 contest, Sreekanth Reddy and Vijay Karthik were defeated by Laura Rummel, who secured a commanding lead with 16,348 votes. In the Place 6 race, Sai Krishnarajanagar lost to Brittany Colberg.

Online, one widely circulated post claimed that “every candidate with an Indian last name running for an election in Frisco is getting destroyed,” reflecting how the results have been interpreted in broader cultural and political debates.

Frisco, it is estimated has Indian Americans forming roughly one third of the city’s residents. A significant portion of that population consists of non-citizens, making them ineligible to vote and limiting their electoral influence.
