Shashank Arora’s Short ‘Getar Hero’ Qualifies For Academy Awards

LOS ANGELES, CA – Following a celebrated debut at the Tribeca Film Festival, the genre-bending short film ‘Getar Hero’ has officially qualified for consideration at the 99th Academy Awards.

Directed by Teddy Stern and produced by Sneha Mehta – the creative duo known collectively as Sneddy -the film reimagines the classic American Western by dropping its iconic tropes directly into the colorful, relentless energy of modern-day Mumbai.

The story centers on a down-on-his-luck cowboy who arrives in the city only to find his guitar and wallet stolen. Desperate to reclaim his livelihood, he plunges into neon-lit streets on an intense quest through an unfamiliar landscape.

Indian actor Shashank Arora, known for his roles in ‘Superboys of Malegaon,’ ‘Made in Heaven,’ and ‘Titli,’ stars in the lead role alongside Manoj Sharma and Rajesh Balwani.

Visually striking and emotionally charged, the short blends traditional Western mythology with the vibrant musicality of Bollywood cinema. The concept emerged from a period of deep personal reflection by the filmmakers on identity, performance, and modern masculinity.

Stern noted that the core idea was to place a non-traditional hero in the wrong movie and the wrong outfit, forcing him to adapt to a city where survival relies on collective endurance and interdependence rather than traditional rugged individualism.

‘Getar Hero’ builds on over a decade of collaborative work by Sneddy across the United States and India. Their portfolio spans branded content and narrative projects, including North America’s first Indian reality competition series ‘Destination: Bollywood’ for Hulu, as well as high-profile commercial projects.
