Sikh Republican Criticized For Praying To ‘Foreign God’ At RNC
India-West News Desk
MILWAUKEE, WI – On July 15, Republican Harmeet Dhillon delivered a prayer at the Republican National Convention, drawing from her Sikh faith tradition. Dhillon, who shared her family’s immigrant background, recited a prayer that translates to, “This body and soul are yours. You are our mother and father, and we are your children. In your grace and through your benevolence, we experience peace and happiness!”
While Dhillon’s prayer was well-received by many, some conservative Christians on X criticized her for praying to what they termed a “foreign god.” In response, Dhillon took to X, stating she was “blocking quite a few people” but noted that the majority of responses to her prayer were positive.
“Overall, while the voices of haters can be amplified artificially online, I would say the vast majority of the response to my prayer by mainstream Republicans has been positive, and I’m grateful for that,” Dhillon told The Post.
“We believe that there is one God,” she stated, underscoring her inclusive approach to faith and spirituality within the Republican Party.

Sikhs don’t have a GOD. Only Gurus. It is an interesting history on how it became a religion.
It was the British who required applicants to their posts to declare religion and caste. They asked Sikhs to declare Sikh as a religion.
Part of a divide and rule policy.
Vaishnav Gods are the Gods of Sikh Gurus. You can’t change that. Just look at the names of the Gurus and their children.

National conventions are big drama (Khel). In many ways, they are circus shows. Prayer services are head-and-tail events to calm people from excitement and agitation. Harmeet Dhillon’s Sikh prayers were inserted into the schedule to give the Republican Party a facade of universalism and toleration of the non-Christian faiths. I bet, there were no more than two practicing Sikhs in that drama venue.

Anil’s statement that “ Sikhs don’t have a God. Only Gurus “ is incorrect and offensive. The very first verse by Guru Nanak in our holy scripture Shri Granth Sahib states: “Ek Onkar” which means : “There is one God.”
July 20, 2024Also, while we share common heritage with Hinduism, Sikhism is a distinct religion by beliefs and practices.
