Subhash Ghai Raises Alarm Over Declining Cinema Audiences
MUMBAI (ANI)- Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai has voiced concerns over declining cinema audiences in India, attributing the trend to high ticket prices.
Taking to social media, Ghai shared a picture of an almost empty theater and questioned the sustainability of the industry under current conditions.
In his post, he wrote, “Why is Bollywood bleeding today? Because of the heavy cost to watch a film in cinema halls. Cinema lovers have stopped going to theatres to experience a collective movie-watching experience on the big screen.”
Ghai proposed a solution, suggesting that Bollywood and state governments should cap 30% of cinema tickets at affordable rates, similar to the “economy class” ticket pricing in Tamil Nadu. He believes such a move could bring audiences back to theaters.
With a legacy of iconic films like Karz, Pardes, Vishwanath, Saudagar, and Khalnayak, Ghai’s comments have resonated with many, especially as streaming platforms continue to gain popularity due to their convenience and affordability.

I don’t watch any movie unless it is on Amazon Prime. Too many streaming channels and too much mediocre content.
