WASHINGTON DC – Several universities in the United States have issued advisories to international students and staff before President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, reflecting growing uncertainty over potential changes to immigration policies. According to a report by the BBC, many international students and scholars are anxious about their future in the country amid Trump’s campaign promises to implement strict immigration measures.

Trump has pledged to carry out the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, even suggesting the involvement of the military to enforce it. His previous attempts to dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which shields over half a million immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children, have also heightened concerns within the academic community.

The University of Massachusetts issued a travel advisory on November 5, recommending that international students, faculty, and staff “strongly consider” returning to campus before Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Similarly, Wesleyan University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have urged their international communities to finalize travel plans early to avoid potential disruptions.

At Yale University, the Office of International Students and Scholars hosted a webinar earlier this month to address concerns about visa stability and potential policy shifts under the new administration.

“Students are incredibly overwhelmed and stressed out right now as a result of the uncertainty around immigration,” Professor Chloe East of the University of Colorado, Denver, told the BBC. “A lot of students have concerns about their visas and whether they’ll be allowed to continue their education.”

An estimated 408,000 undocumented students are enrolled in higher education institutions across the U.S., making up approximately 1.9% of all postsecondary students, according to the Higher Ed Immigration Portal.

  • The first batch of illegal immigrants to be deported or the ones with the felony conviction or any kind of gang affiliation. This will instill confidence in the people who voted for him, that he has kept his word.. The next batch will be undocumented immigrants who are a burden to the Government and Society who are not paying their share of taxes. It’s not like 20 million people who are are going to be deported. En Masse.

  • Failure to deport students who were overstaying after receiving training in piloting resulted in 9/11. It is important to enforce law and order for national security.
