Vance And Usha Likely To Visit India Next Month
WASHINGTON, DC (ANI)- US Vice President JD Vance is expected to visit India next month, accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance, Politico reported, citing sources familiar with the plans.
This will be Vance’s second foreign trip as VP, following his visit to France and Germany last month. Usha Vance, whose parents emigrated from India to the US, has Indian roots.
The visit comes amid ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations over tariffs. On March 11, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized the tariffs imposed by several countries, including India, on American goods. She highlighted India’s 150 percent tariff on American alcohol and 100 percent tariff on agricultural products.
Last week, US President Donald Trump also criticized India’s trade policies, stating that it is “next to impossible to sell anything to India” due to high tariffs.
In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Vice President Vance and his family on the sidelines of the AI summit in Paris, where they celebrated the birthday of Vance’s son, Vivek. Modi described the meeting as a “great conversation” and expressed his joy in joining the celebration.
Vance thanked PM Modi for his hospitality, saying, “Prime Minister Modi was gracious and kind, and our kids really enjoyed the gifts. I’m grateful to him for the wonderful conversation.”
As a gesture of goodwill, PM Modi gifted an eco-friendly wooden alphabet set to Vance’s daughter, Mirabel Rose Vance, highlighting India’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.
