Vance Shadows Harris On Campaign Trail, Creates Stir At Wisconsin Airport

EAU CLAIRE, WI (REUTERS) – With candidate Donald Trump largely off the campaign trail this week, vice presidential Republican candidate J.D. Vance has been closely following Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz around the country, staging campaign events near their rallies. This strategy comes in response to a surge in Harris’ campaign that has reportedly unsettled Trump’s camp.

In an unusual moment on August 7, Vance approached Air Force Two at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport while Harris appeared to be in her motorcade on the tarmac. He asked nearby reporters why Harris did not take more of their questions. The two candidates’ planes were several hundred yards apart.

“I’m just trying to check out this plane that’s going to be mine in a few months,” Vance quipped, speaking briefly to reporters as Harris’ motorcade drove away, according to video footage taken by reporters on the scene.

Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident, which several people traveling with the vice president said went unnoticed at the time.
