WASHINGTON, DC – The White House will remove a nearly 200-year-old magnolia tree that traces its roots to former President Andrew Jackson’s Tennessee home. The tree, originally planted in honor of Jackson’s late wife, Rachel, has long been a historic fixture on the property.

President Trump announced on March 30 that, after consulting with the Executive Residence Staff and the National Park Service, the decision was made to replace the tree due to safety concerns.

“The bad news is that everything must come to an end, and this tree is in terrible condition, a very dangerous safety hazard, at the White House Entrance, no less, and must now be removed,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Typically, he also added that the “good news” is that his administration is “making tremendous enhancements to the White House.” “This process will take place next week, and will be replaced by another, very beautiful tree,” Trump said.

He noted that White House staff will preserve the tree’s “historic wood,” which, he said, “may be used for other high and noble purposes!!!”
