PLAINVIEW, NY — The New York chapter of World Vegan Vision hosted a community program on nutrition and cancer research at Sai Temple in Plainview on June 14, drawing more than 80 attendees.

The event, titled ‘Dietary Research in Cancer – Food for Thought,’ focused on research examining the relationship between diet, gut health, inflammation and cancer, as well as the role of lifestyle choices in overall well-being.

Dr. Urvi Shah, a Multiple Myeloma specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, presented evidence-based findings on nutrition and cancer research. Her presentation explored how factors such as fiber intake, gut health and inflammation may influence overall health and discussed ways scientific research can be applied in everyday life.

The program also featured Shalu Nijhawan, founder of Plant Yum and a SHARAN-certified holistic nutrition and health coach. Nijhawan spoke about practical approaches to plant-based living and conducted a demonstration on preparing plant-based salad dressings.

Among the guests was Padma Shri awardee Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori, recognized for his contributions to cancer treatment, education and prevention. Attendees also viewed a video message from actor Amitabh Bachchan promoting veganism and compassionate living.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session that allowed participants to engage directly with speakers on topics related to nutrition, lifestyle habits and preventive health.
