Ranveer Singh Faces Boycott Call, Says He Holds Film Fraternity In High Regard

MUMBAI – The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a Non-Cooperation Directive (NCD) against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh following a complaint by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar over the actor’s exit from ‘Don 3’.

In a statement, FWICE said, “Considering the conduct displayed towards the Federation and the stakeholders associated with the project, the office bearers of FWICE have resolved to issue a Non-Cooperation Directive (NCD) against Mr. Ranveer Singh.”

The federation, however, said it remained open to discussions with the actor to resolve the matter amicably.

“FWICE remains open to meeting with Mr. Ranveer Singh to hear his side of the matter and to take the issue forward towards arriving at an amicable and final resolution in the interest of both parties,” it added.

Ranveer had been signed as the lead actor for the third instalment of the ‘Don’ franchise before reportedly exiting the project shortly before filming was scheduled to begin.

According to FWICE, producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani informed the federation that their production banner suffered losses of nearly Rs 45 crore in pre-production expenses following the actor’s withdrawal from the project.

The federation said it had sent multiple communications to Ranveer asking him to appear before FWICE. Responding to the notices, the actor reportedly stated that “FWICE would not be the appropriate forum for the complainants to raise their grievances” and maintained that the matter was contractual in nature and should be addressed through the appropriate legal forum.

Following the federation’s action, Ranveer Singh issued an official statement through his spokesperson, saying he continued to respect the film fraternity and everyone associated with the ‘Don’ franchise.

“Ranveer Singh holds the highest regard for the film fraternity and for everyone associated with the Don franchise. Throughout the recent developments surrounding Don 3, he has consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect,” the statement read.

“His focus remains firmly on his work and the commitments ahead. He continues to hold deep respect and goodwill for all those involved and sincerely wishes the franchise continued success,” it added.

Reports had earlier claimed that Ranveer offered to return his reported signing amount to Excel Entertainment to compensate for losses, though sources close to the production later denied the claims. (IANS)
